LMU Mentoring

Das Mentoring-Programm unterstützt NachwuchswissenschaftlerInnen (DoktorandInnen, Postdocs, HabilitandInnen) auf dem Weg einer akademischen Karriere. Mindestens 50% der Mentees sollen Frauen sein.
Das Programm sieht zusätzlich ein besonderes Förderungs-/Coaching-Programm für hochbegabte Studierende aus den Masterstudiengängen der Fakultät vor (ExzellentMINT@lmu). Die Mentees sollen Studierende aus den Masterstudiengängen der Fakultät sein. Die maximal geförderte Anzahl ist 6. Für die Studierenden ist keine finanzielle Unterstützung vorgesehen.

Das Mentoring-Programm bietet unter anderem Coaching (einzeln und in Gruppe), Fortbildungsveranstaltungen und Mittel (nach Verfügbarkeit) für Fortbildungsreisen, Forschungsaufenthalte, Publikationen, Literatur, Rechnerausstattung, studentische Hilfskräfte und Einladung auswärtiger Sprecher.
Die Kommission legt Wert auf Vernetzung auf Fakultäts-, Universitäts-, nationaler sowie internationaler Ebene und bietet Unterstützung dafür an.

Kommission

Das Mentoring Programm wird durch eine Fakultätskommission geleitet. Die Kommission ist durch den Fakultätsrat bestellt und besteht aus den ProfessorInnen Caroline Friedel, Konstantinos Panagiotou, Thomas Augustin und dem Dekan Prof. Peter Müller.
Die ProfessorenInnen Anne-Laure Boulesteix und Gitta Kutyniok wurden von der Kommission als weitere Mentoren/innen bestellt.

Auswahlverfahren

Die Aufnahme von Mentees erfolgt nach gesonderter Auschreibung einmal im Jahr. Bewerbungen mit schriftlichem Anschreiben, Lebenslauf, Schriftenverzeichnis und einem Empfehlungsschreiben sollen an die/den KoordinatorIn geschickt werden. Die Kommission kann die KandidatInnen zu einem Interview einladen. Bei gleicher Qualifizierung sollen Bewerberinnen bzw. Kandidaten mit Benachteiligung (z.B. Behinderung, Migrationshintergrund, familiäre Belastungen) bevorzugt werden.
Bei studentischen Mentees erfolgt das Auswahlverfahren wie für reguläre Mentees. Zusätzlich ist ein aktuelles Transcript of Records erforderlich.

Bei den Mentees erfolgt die Auswahl nach wissenschaftlichen Leistungen. Bei den studentischen Mentees erfolgt die Auswahl nach besonderen Leistungen im Studium, z.B. in Projekt- und Bachelorarbeiten.

MentorInnen

Jede/r Mentee bekommt eineN MentorIn aus der Fakultätskommission zugeteilt. Bei Bedarf kann die Fakultätskommission auch andere Mitglieder des Promotionsausschusses der Fakultät als MentorInnen bestellen. Die Fakultätskommission beziehungsweise gegebenenfalls die zusätzlichen MentorInnen treffen sich mindestens einmal pro Jahr mit allen Mentees.
Jede/r Mentee kann sich zusätzlich noch ein/e MentorIn oder Coach aussuchen (auch an anderen Universitäten, ebenso ausländischen Universitäten). Die MentorInnen bieten Unterstützung bei der Suche.

The mentoring program supports young scientists (doctoral students and postdocs) on their way to an academic career. At least 50% of the mentees should be women.
The program additionally provides special support and coaching for highly talented students from the faculty's master's programs (ExzellentMINT@lmu). The maximum number of master students supported is 6. No financial support is provided for the student mentees.

The mentoring program provides, among other things, coaching (individual and group), professional development sessions, and funds (subject to availability) for educational travel, research, publications, literature, computer equipment, student assistants, and invitation of out-of-town speakers.
The Commission emphasizes networking at the faculty, university, national, and international levels and offers support for this.

Commission

The mentoring program is governed by a faculty commission. The commission is appointed by the Faculty Council and consists of Professors Caroline Friedel, Konstantinos Panagiotou, Thomas Augustin,and the Dean Professor Peter Müller. Professors Anne-Laure Boulesteix and Gitta Kutyniok have been appointed by the commission as additional mentors.

Selection process

Mentees are accepted once a year after a separate call for applications. A call is issued in November, with a deadline around the end of the year (for the forthcoming year). Applications with a written cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications and a letter of recommendation should be sent to the coordinator. The committee may invite candidates for an interview. In case of equal qualification, preference should be given to applicants or candidates with disadvantages (e.g. disability, migration background, family burdens).
For student mentees, the selection process is the same as for regular mentees. In addition, a current transcript of records is required.

For mentees, selection is based on academic performance. For student mentees, selection is based on special achievements in their studies, e.g. in project and bachelor theses.

Mentors

Each mentee is assigned a mentor from the faculty commission. If necessary, the faculty commission can also appoint other members of the faculty's doctoral committee as mentors. The Faculty Commission or, if applicable, the additional mentors meet with all mentees at least once a year.
Each mentee can additionally choose a mentor or coach (also at other universities, as well as foreign universities). The mentors offer support in the search.
